A Special Present for Your Parents

Dear 4F,

Your parents are the most important persons in your life. They ceaselessly play multi-dimensional roles such as that of a teacher, well-wisher, mentor, role-model, protector, and so on just to ensure that you get a good life and grow up into a mature, responsible citizen. It is really important for you to repay them for their unconditional love and hard work. So let’s do this on Parents’ Day (7th Feb, 10) by giving them a touching present.

But what are we going to buy? Markets get flooded with gifts and presents for parents. Children usually prefer buying presents from the market for their parents, which could range from silk scarves, to brooches, music system, watches and so on. Some even prefer to make special gifts with their own hands and this could be a sweater or simply a nice cozy surprise dinner. BUT we teachers believe that a letter to your parents is definitely the best choice!

So instead of buying a gift for them, simply sit down and think about what you can tell them wholeheartedly in your letter!

A Happy New Year

Dear 4F students,

What a special day today! When the clock strikes twelve today, people all over the world cheer and wish each other a very Happy New Year. For some, this event is no more than a change of a calendar. For others, the New Year symbolizes the beginning of a better tomorrow.

What about you? So, if you look forward to a good year ahead, spread happiness with these wonderful New Year wishes. May I here wish you all an enjoyable and prosperous year.

Remember, let this coming year be better than all the others. Do some of the things you've always wanted to do but couldn't find the time. Call up a forgotten friend. Drop an old grudge, and replace it with some pleasant memories. Vow not to make a promise you don't think you can keep. Walk tall, and smile more. You'll look pleasant and smart. Don't be afraid to say, 'I love you'. Say it again and again to the ones you treasure and love – especially your parents and family members. They are the sweetest words in the world.

And remember, FUTURE is in your hands. It is always good, no matter what happens. It will always give us what we need and what we want in secret. It will always bless us with right gifts. Thus in a deeper sense our belief in the New Year cannot deceive us.

No More Stress! Let's Relax!


As the school’s syllabuses get more complex, you may find it difficult to cope with your increasing workload and hence you’ll have a stressful experience. Follow these steps to make your time in school a pleasant one.

Identify all the positive reasons for all the hard work and effort you are putting into getting good grades. Is it for yourself and your parents, or for your relatives? These reasons should be empowering or perhaps put a smile on your face when you think about them.

Being well stocked with pens, pencils, ruler, eraser, writing pad and files ensures that you need not worry about not having any basic material on hand. Acquire the good habit of filing and adopt an organized system of filing, so that you know exactly where to find your notes and worksheets when you need to. This saves you a lot of time.

Be on time for all your classes. Dragging your feet into lessons and being late will not please your teacher and it adds to everyone’s negative vibes about each other. The same goes for your homework. It is best to plan to finish your work before deadlines, NOT right on deadlines. You tend to be late when you plan to finish just on time.

Your teachers have an abundance of subject resources with them. If you need any help at all, always approach them. They will be more than happy to direct you to resources or even give some of their own to you. If you need help with some of your weaker subjects, do not hesitate to ask them.

When you have a choice of which subjects to take or which topics to work on for projects, always choose those for which you have the most interest. This makes learning fun for you and you are usually much more productive.

Allocate specific time slots everyday for homework and leisure. It is normally advised that you clear up your work first before relaxing. It is always better to allocate slightly more time than is needed than to underestimate, because not being able to finish up work usually leads to panic.

Make sure you have a quiet and pleasant environment for learning. Your table should be clean. Having it too cluttered normally disturbs you subconsciously. Take 5 minute breaks after every hour of study to rest your body and mind. You will come back more refreshed and more productive than before.

The best style of studying that has proven to work is through REGULAR REVISION. You tend to feel more prepared for classes and ready to do your homework when you follow this style.

And of course, the most important thing is to talk to me. Let me share your worries and laughter.

Recently, I read an article from the Internet. This article touched my heart and I would like to share with you. Enjoy!

She loves her like her own

KLANG: When Wong Lee Foong was about a year old, her grandmother wished her dead.

'It's better for you to die before I do. If not, who will care for you?' she once asked.

But the grandmother was not being cruel.

The family was just too poor and hard-pressed to care for the youngest child, born with cerebral palsy and epilepsy and could neither walk nor talk.

To eke out a living, the grandmother would troop the four grandchildren under her care to the fields to plant lady's fingers in Kundang, Rawang.

While the rest of her siblings played, Lee Foong was left under a tree, attracting flies as she urinated and defecated.

Grandma fed the child with condensed milk, the only kind of baby food she could afford.

And then along came Roxanna Lim, a social worker who took the child as her own.

She was a single working woman then, but she promised to be the best mother to the disabled child.

For the next 20 years, Lim tried to live up to the promise. She quit her job to become a full-time mother and has been living on donations since.

When Lee Foong's contorted body needed a special medical bed, Lim begged a private rehabilitation school to give her one.

When the special child's eyes were diagnosed with retina detachment, Lim took her to Singapore for a corrective surgery. A couple sponsored the trip and the surgery was a success.

'I want my Lee Foong to continue seeing the beautiful rainbow, her favourite Barney show and her pretty Christmas dress,' said Lim, 53.

The journey through life for the awesome twosome has been peppered with laughter, sorrow, despair and encouragement and, above all, faith, hope and love.

Asked if she regretted taking in Lee Foong, Lim said: 'It has not been easy, but I have God on my side.

'Who can resist her smile and her twinkling eyes? My baby may not be like the rest, but she is definitely not a child of a lesser God,' said Lim.

Read this sentence again - `My baby may not be like the rest, but she is definitely not a child of a lesser God'. Well said.

Class, see how lucky we are! We all need to treasure the things we have.

Successful Flag-Selling Day

Dear 4F students,

Wow, I'm really proud of you. You all did a great job!

It was raining heavily yesterday morning but all of you still tried your best to help the people in need. Although sometimes you were turned down or ignored, you never gave up. You gathered all your courage and kept on asking the passers-by to buy flags from you. How kind and persistent you are!

Remember, we should never give up! I'll always support you!
